Become the leading lady of your own life

There's a pause I've learned to listen for.
It happens in sessions, usually about twenty minutes in. I'll ask a woman what she actually wants, not what she thinks she should want or what would make everyone else comfortable. And she stops. Sometimes she laughs a little. Then she says, "Oh, I don't mind. I'm easy."
I hear it so often now that I can feel it coming.
Here's what I know after twenty years of this work, and years spent in the rooms where film careers are made. That pause is not a lack of ambition, and it's not a lack of confidence. Most of the women I work with are formidable. They run businesses, hold families together and walk into rooms and read them in seconds. The pause is what happens when you've spent so long being easy to be around that you lose the thread of your own wanting.
And from the outside it looks like success. She's capable, she's generous, and she's the one everyone calls. But privately there's a tiredness that sleep doesn't touch. A feeling of being slightly behind her own life, watching it rather than leading it. She's rarely sad in an obvious way. She's flat. She's waiting for something, and she couldn't tell you what.
If that's you, I want to say this as gently as I can. You haven't missed your moment. You haven't left it too late, and nothing is wrong with you. Somewhere along the way you learned a very clever way of staying safe and loved, and it worked. That's exactly why it's so hard to put down. You were rewarded for it for years.
But it has a cost, and the cost is you. The part of you that has opinions, appetites and a sense of direction goes quiet when you're always adjusting. And that quiet part is where your magnetism lives. People don't feel your energy when you're managing it. They feel it when you're real.
When a woman starts answering honestly, something shifts that she doesn't expect. Her decisions get faster. Her boundaries stop needing a speech. She stops rehearsing conversations in the shower. The people who loved the easy version of her sometimes wobble, and the right ones lean in. None of it is dramatic, but all of it is felt. It's the difference between being present in your life and managing it.
What I've seen again and again is that the way back is not a reinvention. It's much smaller and much more powerful than that. It starts when you let yourself answer honestly, even about tiny things. What you'd actually like to eat. How you want to spend your Saturday.
Whether you want to go at all. Each honest answer turns your attention back toward yourself, and your energy follows your attention. That's what changes a room when you walk into it.
I've watched the film industry for years, and the real leading ladies are rarely the loudest or the most talented in the room. You don't become one by performing confidence. You become one by deciding the story is yours, and then letting yourself want things out loud.
This is your golden invitation.
Not to become someone new, but to come back to the woman who always knew what she wanted, a
nd let her lead.
If something in this stirred, I'd love to hear which part. I'm always glad to have a conversation with a woman who's ready to lead her own story.
With Love
